What's happening

A new 40km/hr area speed limit is being proposed in parts of Alberton. If you live in Alberton, we want to hear what a 40km/hr area speed limit in your neighbourhood means to you.

We have been working with the City of Charles Sturt (CCS) to investigate reducing the speed zone to 40km/hr in Cheltenham (in CCS) and a neighbouring part of Alberton (in PAE).

We are proposing to:

  • Implement a 40 km/hr speed limit to the local roads in Alberton. These include: Brougham Place, Seventh Avenue, Fifth Ave, Earle Ave, King Street & Queen Street (south of Brougham Place).
  • Install new traffic signs to indicate the speed zone change throughout the area.
  • Local roads to the north of Brougham Place will be treated with ‘End 40 Area’ to signpost the return to the default urban speed limit of 50km/hr.

Please see the map below showing the designated area proposed for speed reduction to 40km/hr.

This feedback survey has now closed and more information on this proposal will be provided shortly.

What we asked

We asked residents of Alberton to share their feedback on the proposal to reduce the speed limit to 40km/hr on the residential streets of Brougham Place, Seventh Avenue, Fifth Ave, Earle Ave, King Street & Queen Street (south of Brougham Place).

How we asked

We sent 128 letters to residents living on streets within the proposal zone (shown in the map above).

What we heard

The City of PAE and City of Charles Sturt (CCS) both conducted separate engagements with our communities seeking feedback from effected residents on the 40km/hr area wide speed proposals for Cheltenham and Alberton (partial).

Next steps

The City of Charles Sturt Council, at it’s meeting on 22 May 2023 endorsed the area wide 40km/h speed zone throughout Cheltenham, which borders Alberton and resolved ‘for a joint application to be made to the Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT) to apply for a 40km/hr speed limit in all local streets in Cheltenham and the streets in Alberton up to and including Brougham Place subject to a resolution by the City of Port Adelaide Enfield’.

At the Council Meeting on 13 June 2023, the City of PAE endorsed the partial 40km/hr speed zones for the residential streets of Brougham Place, Seventh Avenue, Fifth Ave, Earle Ave, King Street & Queen Street (south of Brougham Place).

A formal submission will now be made to DIT to progress with this 40km/hr speed zone. Subject to Council receiving approval from DIT, implementation of the area wide 40km/hr speed zone for Alberton (partial) will be implemented.
