What we asked

We told our community that the Betty Preston Reserve playground replacement would include swinging, sliding and climbing and asked what fourth play element our community would like to see.

How we asked

What we heard

We received 16 feedback survey responses. 15 participants voted on the fourth play element (other than sliding, swimming and climbing) that would like to see included, with one person voting for multiple items.

  • Balancing - 6 votes

  • Role play / pretend play - 3 votes

  • Jumping - 3 votes

  • Spinning - 2 votes

  • Rocking - 2 votes

Below are the key themes that were received through written responses:

  • Toddler suitable play elements e.g. steps to slides, low level climbing and balancing elements
  • Nature play and increased vegetation
  • Accessible paths
  • Wider variety of equipment
  • Upgrade maintenance of existing shelter, BBQs and grass turf
  • Additional recreation elements (outside of current project scope)

Next steps

Following your feedback, we have selected the final design for the new Betty Preston Playground which caters for children of different ages and will assist with the development of balance, agility and coordination skills. The new playground will include:

  • Elevated play structure with connecting elements,
  • Slides,
  • Climbing ropes and frames,
  • Junior, toddler, and basket swing,
  • Square bouncer,
  • Monkey bars,
  • Springers, and
  • Seesaw
Construction of the new playground is expected to commence in October and be completed by mid-December 2023.
