What did we engage on?

We asked our community to help us understand how we could improve community wellbeing and community connection at Lefevre Community Precinct. We sought to understand the programs, services and infrastructure that our community would like to access at this community precinct to support their wellbeing and encourage them to visit more often.

We are looking to establish a coordinated approach to activating this important community precinct, including improving the level of programs, services and activities being delivered for the community and maximising use of open spaces and supporting facilities.

How did we ask?

We created a variety of ways for our community to share their ideas and feedback, including:

What did we hear?

Community survey

Of the 130 survey participants, 109 currently used the facilities at Lefevre Precinct and 21 did not. 96 people felt that the precinct had something to offer for them, 4 did not and 30 weren't sure.

We asked participants to think about how the Lefevre Precinct could best support their health and wellbeing and select two of the below seven options, that were most important to them. You can see how participants voted below.

We asked participants what they'd like to see more of at Lefevre Precinct either indoors or outdoors. The top six themes we heard were:

  1. Playground - upgrades to the existing playground or a new playground closer to the stadium
  2. Picnic areas - seats, shelters, tables
  3. Community events - movie nights, markets, family friendly
  4. Sport - programs, activities, competitions
  5. Swimming pool or swimming centre
  6. Fitness classes

The word cloud below shows a summary of the ideas and feedback we received.

We asked participants, if they could make one small change at Lefevre Precinct what would it be? The top three responses we received were:

  1. Promotion - increased promotion of facilities and programs available at the centre
  2. Playground - upgrades to the existing playground or a new playground closer to the stadium
  3. Picnic areas - seats, shelters, tables

The word cloud below shows a summary of the responses we received.

Community voting activity

We worked with students from two local primary schools and one secondary school, around pitching their ideas to improve community connect and wellbeing at Lefevre Precinct. From this great range of ideas, we selected six reoccurring suggestions that would be possible to investigate further.

We asked community members who attended the Lefevre outdoor movie event on 14 April, to vote on their two favourite ideas that they'd like us to investigate from the list of six ideas suggested by local school students.

See the votes we received from event attendees below:

Next steps

  • Develop a report and concept plan that will form the working structure of Lefevre Precinct for next 1- 3 years.
  • Work with internal staff to develop initiatives / strategies from the consultation findings. Staff will review all ideas and feedback and determine ideas that align with the goals and vision for the precinct and Council's Open Space Strategy and Active Recreation Facilities Plan.
  • Implement the short term initiatives / strategies over the next 6-12 months.
