The LJ Lewis Dog Park in Northfield is a popular off‑leash dog park with three enclosed areas designed for all dogs, small dogs, and individual dogs (one dog at a time) to meet the needs of dogs and owners.

In response to a reported incident, the internal gates at the park were closed for a three-month trial period as a precautionary safety measure while further investigation was undertaken.

We proposed to

• end the internal gate closure trial and reopen the internal gates
• implement new, consolidated park-use and education signs are needed.

We undertook community engagement including signs at the park and a survey of users asking

• how you use the dog park
• about your experiences at the dog park
• your degree of support for the proposals
• for other comments

Community engagement was open from 29 April to 24 May 2026.
