We’re improving accessible parking facilities

The current parking bay, located on Divett Street near Lipson Street in Port Adelaide, isn’t as accessible as we’d like it to be.

At PAE, we are committed to improving DDA access of our accessible parking spaces across the Council area.

A strategic direction for Council aligning with our Integrated Transport Strategy is to undertake an audit of all public accessible parking bays across the Council area. The purpose of this audit is to identify and upgrade them to be compliant with the current Australian Standards, improving accessible parking facilities for vulnerable users within the community. This will continue to occur over the next couple of years.

The existing accessible parking bay, located on Divett Street near Lipson Street, does not comply with current standards and presents difficulty for users due to the slope of the road and access in and out of vehicles.

During May and June 2024, we asked our community for feedback on potential locations within the Port Adelaide area for a new compliant accessible parking bay to replace the one on Divett Street.

Next steps

Unfortunately, due to limitations in the surrounding road infrastructure we have been unable to find a new home for a compliant accessible parking bay in the immediate vicinity of the existing one on Divett Street.

However, we are planning on installing two additional accessible parking bays in the angle parking on the eastern side of Commercial Road opposite the Visitor Information Centre subject to a separate consultation with impacted stakeholders.

The existing non-compliant bay on Divett Street will be removed when the additional accessible bays are installed on Commercial Road.

Other existing accessible parking bays in the area are shown on the below map.
