Fort Largs remains important part of Taperoo
In May 2025 we received a community proposal to subdivide the existing suburb of Taperoo into two suburbs by:
- Subtracting the area bounded by Lady Gowrie Drive, Strathfield Terrace, Military Road and the southern edge of Roy Marten Park from the existing suburb of Taperoo
- Creating a new suburb from this area called Fort Largs
We sought to understand the level of local support for the proposal prior to determining whether or not to make a formal submission to the Office of the Surveyor General to request a name change.
Council resolved at the 11 November 2025 meeting not to progress with seeking a suburb name change for the Fort Largs development based on the outcomes of this community engagement.

📖Background
In May 2025, a group of community members presented a petition and deputation at the Council meeting requesting Council to consider changing the name of the Fort Largs development portion of Taperoo to Fort Largs.
Description of proposed changes;
- Subtracting the area bounded by Lady Gowrie Drive, Strathfield Terrace, Military Road and the southern edge of Roy Marten Park from the existing suburb of Taperoo
- Creating a new suburb from this area called Fort Largs
At this stage, to assist the Elected Members in their decision-making process, we’re seeking to understand the level of local support for this proposal. If Council endorses the proposal, our next step will be to put it to the Office of the Surveyor-General, who will ultimately determine whether the changes will go ahead.
