What's happening

During October and November 2024, we asked for feedback from local residents and reserve users, on the proposed location for a new public toilet building at Vickers Vimy Reserve, Northgate. The location we proposed for the toilet facility (Option 1), received mixed feedback (see engagement summary below). We have therefore investigated two alternative locations for the toilet facility and would now like to share all three locations with you to seek your feedback on your preferred location.

In 2020, we adopted our Public Toilet Plan to ensure that clean, safe, accessible toilets are available for people to use in the most popular and public places across our city. This includes the Vickers Vimy Reserve, which is popular with players of cricket, soccer and basketball, has a new playground and is used by families from the local school. As part of our Annual Business Plan 2024–25, we have allocated a budget towards constructing a new toilet at the reserve.

You can view the three possible locations for the public toilet facility on the map below and share your feedback by completing the online feedback form or requesting a hardcopy form be posted to you.

Engagement is open until Sunday 23 March 2025.

Share your feedback

View the three possible locations for a new public toilet facility and share your feedback on your preferred option.

Possible locations

  • Option1

Option 1 is the original location that was proposed for the public toilet facility on the norther side of the existing playground.

Advantages: close proximity to service connections reducing cost, visibility from all locations within the reserve, close proximity to reserve amenities, high visibility for parents tending to children at play equipment.

Considerations: feedback received on this location in 2024 was mixed and included concerns for the effects on adjoining residents.

  • Option 2

Option 2 is positioned between the existing fitness equipment and BBQ area.

Advantages: within close proximity to reserve amenities, close proximity to reserve lighting allowing for illumination at dark, minimal work to surrounding footpaths and pavements would be required, good visibility for parents tending to children at play equipment.

Considerations: most expensive to construct due to distance from services for water and sewerage, not fully visible from all locations within the reserve.

  • Option 3

Option 3 is near the roundabout connecting Navigator Dr and Ashbrook Dr in the southern corner of the reserve.

Advantages: within close proximity to service connections therefore lower cost to council, within close proximity to reserve car park.

Considerations: not within close proximity to reserve amenities, not within close proximity to reserve lighting, may impact residents directly opposite.

Next steps

Due to the engagement results showing mixed feedback on the proposed location of the public toilet facility, we will now investigate further possible alternative locations at Vickers Vimy Reserve. A Report will be presented to Council in 2025, detailing the possible options for the facility location and highlighting the advantages and disadvantages of each location considering cost estimations, distance from services (water and power), impact to residents and proximity of location to key reserve infrastructure. A decision on the final location for the facility from the available options presented (including the current proposed option), will be made by Council.
