What we asked

We asked our community to share their feedback on the play equipment that wanted to see at the upgraded Largs Bay Playspace and what they thought of the draft concept design.

How we asked

What we heard

Overall a total of 103 formal responses were submitted for the Largs Bay Playspace Upgrade engagement. Of these responses, 31% were children. Attendees at the community day were mostly young families and some elderly members from the community. Most attendees were local residents who either walked or rode their bikes to the community consultation day.

There were a number of key themes that came out through the survey, school workshops and community drop-in session, including:

  • Concerns from adults regarding the 5 way swing mainly surrounding the amount of space it takes up and the safety of it for younger children in particular.
  • Requests for more natural elements, and overall natural look to the space by including elements such as: nature play; water play and sand play.
  • People enjoyed the idea of an icecream themed playground, or at least icecream themed elements within the playspace.
  • School students suggested flying foxes, and this was also reinforced by the survey with many people commenting they would like to see at least a small one in the space.
  • Student requests for more disability equipment, such as a wheelchair accessible trampoline.
  • Inclusion of additional seating inside the playspace design and ensuring that the playspace was remaining fully fenced with multiple gate entry points.

Next steps

Using the data collected from our community, Birdseye Studios will work with our PAE Parks and Gardens staff to develop a final concept design for Largs Bay Playspace. Construction of the new playspace will occur during the 2023/2024 financial year.
