About the project

We received a request from the Greek Orthodox Community of South Australia Incorporated to close a portion of Leadenhall Street, Port Adelaide, between Church Street and Gouger Crescent, Port Adelaide, as part of their proposed development of a cultural/community centre.

A report was presented titled “Leadenhall Street, Port Adelaide – Proposed Road Closure” to Council on 10 September 2024, outlining the proposal.

We then sought the communities feedback on this proposal in May 2025. You can read more about these result on the main page.

Two community deputations were presented at the 8 July 2025 Ordinary Council Meeting of support and objection to the proposal. Discussion of engagement outcomes are deferred to August.

On the 12 August 2025 Council resolved to not proceed with the proposed closure of a portion of Leadenhall Street, Port Adelaide based on the feedback received during the Community Engagement process and the opposition to the closure presented through a petition.

We will continue to work collaboratively Port Adelaide Greek Orthodox Community (PAGOC) and local residents to identify and assess traffic calming options, including the potential to convert a portion of Leadenhall Street to a one-way street, that appropriately balances community safety, traffic efficiency, and financial considerations.
