Leadenhall Street remains open

We received a request from the Greek Orthodox Community of South Australia Incorporated to close a portion of Leadenhall Street, Port Adelaide, between Church Street and Gouger Crescent, Port Adelaide, as part of a proposed development of a cultural/community centre.

A report was presented titled “Leadenhall Street, Port Adelaide – Proposed Road Closure” to Council on 10 September 2024, outlining the proposal.

We asked community to share your thoughts on the proposal including a community survey. Two deputations to Council and a petition a petition were also received.

Council has resolved to not proceed with the proposed closure of a portion of Leadenhall Street.

We will continue to work collaboratively with the Port Adelaide Greek Orthodox Community (PAGOC) and local residents to identify and assess traffic calming options, including the potential to convert a portion of Leadenhall Street to a one-way street, that appropriately balances community safety, traffic efficiency, and financial considerations.

You can read further about the outcomes in the 12 August 2025 Council Minutes Item No. 13.2.4.
