In 2023, we purchased four residential allotments on Carroll Ave, Kilburn from the South Australian Housing Authority (SAHA). By purchasing these allotments, we are able to upgrade and redevelop the adjoining Jack Watkins Reserve, and create a new reserve entrance from Carroll Ave. As a part of this land transaction, SAHA indicated to us that they were seeking to acquire Sunnybrae Reserve, Kilburn to align with their Affordable Housing Provisions.

At the September 2023 Ordinary Council Meeting, a Report titled ‘Revocation of Community Land Classification – Sunnybrae Reserve, Kilburn’ was presented and Council endorsed the Administration entering into Community Consultation, seeking feedback on the proposal to remove the ‘Community Land Classification’ from the portions of land identified as Sunnybrae Reserve, Kilburn. We undertook community engagement during January and February 2024. You can find out what we heard from our community below.

At the Council Meeting on 8 October 2024, Council passed a resolution to revoke the community land classification of Sunnybrae Reserve pursuant to section 194(3)(b) of the Local Government Act 1999 for the purposes of its sale to the South Australian Housing Trust. The Council Meeting agenda and minutes can be viewed on the City of PAE website.

The below map shows:

• The portions of land defined as ‘Sunnybrae Reserve, Kilburn’ shown in red and measuring approximately 1,528 sqm.
• The newly acquired portion of community land shown in blue and measuring approximately 2,844 sqm.
• The portion of land defined as 'Jack Watkins Reserve, Kilburn' shown in purple and measuring approximately 74,176 sqm.

We asked local residents if they supported the proposal to remove the ‘Community Land Classification’ from the portions of land identified as Sunnybrae Reserve, Kilburn.

At the Ordinary Council Meeting on 9 April 2024, Council considered the feedback provide during community engagement and endorsed the recommendation from Administration to continue with the Revocation Process and proceed with any necessary documents and reports to be provided to the Minister for Local Government seeking endorsement of the Revocation of Community Land Classification of Sunnybrae Reserve, Kilburn.

The Minister for Local Government provided his approval on 15 August 2024 thereby

giving Council the authority to proceed with the revocation. At the Council Meeting on 8 October 2024, Council passed a resolution to revoke the community land classification of Sunnybrae Reserve pursuant to section 194(3)(b) of the Local Government Act 1999 for the purposes of its sale to the South Australian Housing Trust.
