What's happening

The Dogs on Beaches Community Working Group have worked extensively together to propose a potential new option for rules for dogs on Grassed Foreshore Reserves from Semaphore South to North Haven.

You can view the the current rules for dogs on Grassed Foreshore Reserves (Option 1) as well as the option proposed by the working group (Option 2).

It's important to note, that dogs are always required to be on-leash when on a shared path or footpath. The rules we are considering only apply to grassed foreshore areas.

Understanding the current rules

There are currently different rules for dog on our grassed foreshore reserves, footpaths, shared paths and beach, which can make it confusing for community members to understand their obligations.

Our footpaths and shared paths are on-leash at all times as designated under the Dog and Cat Management Act.

Our grassed foreshore reserves are currently off-leash at all times.

Grassed Foreshore Reserves Option 1 - Off-leash all areas (current rules)

This option is for the grassed foreshore reserves from Semaphore South to North Haven. This option is the same as the current rules.

On the grassed areas of foreshore reserves, dogs are allowed off-leash, under effective control, at all times all year round. These areas are shown in green.

On shared pathways and footpaths, dogs must always be on leash.
