The proposal
As part of our ongoing commitment to making our streets safer we recently developed the Local Area Traffic Management (LATM) plan for the Klemzig, Windsor Gardens & Holden Hill areas which was endorsed at the 9 August 2022 Council Meeting. It was identified through the LATM process to upgrade the existing bus only treatment on McKay Avenue, Windsor Gardens directly south of Brecon Street.
It is considered that the removal of the existing McKay Avenue closure will result in a significant increase in traffic re-entering the local road network via Danby Avenue and McKay Avenue directly adjacent The Avenues College. With the increase in traffic will come an increased likelihood of crashes, a reduction in pedestrian safety and loss of amenity for local residents.
We understand this restriction can be inconvenient for local residents; however, the safety benefits are considered to outweigh the convenience that opening this road may bring. Unfortunately, it is not possible to implement any control which permits local residents to travel through the treatment while preventing non-locals at the same time.
As such we have developed a concept to improve upon the existing bus only closure on McKay Avenue rather than reopen the road to all traffic. You can view the McKay Ave Concept Plan under the document library or by selecting the button below. The proposal includes:
Feedback is not mandatory; however, completion of the included form will assist us in the decision making process. A report will be presented to Council following the completion of the community engagement period.
